July! Ice Cream Month!

Also horseradish but trust

Me, NOT together!!

Sure, we have heat but

Summer in Arizona

Is really not bad.

Metal objects? NO!

Soda cans, plastic, wax? NO!

Dashboard cookies? YES!

All or Nothing Day

Time to seize every moment

Or at least pick one.

Barbecue, Pickles,

Watermelon & Tomatoes.

The tastes of summer.

Barefoot walks, naps in

The tall grass, eating blueberries

Off the bush….dreaming.

You Know It’s Hot When…

•July 14, 2015 • Comments Off on You Know It’s Hot When…

You know it’s hot when…

the cows are giving evaporated milk.

the chickens are laying hard-boiled eggs

hot water now comes out of both taps.  (bonus that you don’t have to wait for it)

you actually burn your hand opening the car door. (true story)

you realize that asphalt has a liquid state. (any woman in AZ knows to avoid it when wearing heels)

the birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

you no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water.  (in AZ that’s pretty common)

you can say 113 degrees without fainting. (113 really isn’t that bad)

the trees are whistling for dogs.

you learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron. (and a penny left on the car seat)

Dear C – WTF?!

Dear Cthulhu,

I received your message last night but I’m afraid I do not at all understand what it means. There I was, laying on a golden sand beach, basking in the warmth of the sun and feeling, well, CONTENT!!! There I said it!!! It was an awesome freaking dream and I woke up well rested and ready to tackle my day head on!

Fear?! NONE !

Anxiety?! NOT A BIT!

Terror?! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

The entire dream was lovely, from the nice smiling man handing out Pina Coladas, to the gorgeous pink and purple sunset, and finally the dolphins singing lullabies. Not a single thing out of place, though I admit the dolphin bit was odd, and it brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.

You, sir, are either slacking entirely or have completely abandoned me. Please send word quickly, or take your time, if you must…

Always Your Faithful Servant,

O

What made today unusual?

What made today unusual?

Last weekend was pretty terrible, lots of anxiety and many tears were shed over things that I know I have no control over. What makes today unusual is the after effects of that, the grief that lingers from having to let go, the sense of calm that comes from acceptance and that little twinge of excitement from knowing that change is on the way. Those combine for me to create a feeling of being outside of myself, a detached sense of observing but not really participating that has a very dreamy quality and makes me feel very raw and yet bulletproof at the same time.

January Links – Dogs, Nice Guys, Blue Diamonds and Monuments

Best of January!

Ok, my best of January…maybe not your best of January but dammit it’s my site…

Brain Scans Reveal What Dogs Really Think of Us

I’ve long thought that I’m not a really good candidate for dog ownership, mostly because they make me sneeze but also because I’m not around enough to give them the attention they need. This article solidified that for me, I am not at all wired to care for a furry toddler with emotional needs. I’ll stick to cats who really only tolerate me invading their home for gushy food and belly rubs.

Nice Guys Finish First

HERE!! Proof that the jerks don’t always win!! Ok so maybe they do get the girl more often but maybe that girl wasn’t really right for you anyway. In fact I’d bet money she wasn’t. So watch this and revel in the awesomeness of nice guys.

New Image of the Blue Diamond Cluster

Messier 47 is a very pretty cluster and it’s visible, though it will not look like the photo, at worst using binoculars. Instructions below the jump.

The Art of Tom Greenhall

The link will take you to Monumentimals, the latest project on Tom Greenhall’s site, a fascinating project on society’s obsession with animals. Click through the links to the right to see his other projects, I was amazed by the variety ideas and expression.

Enjoy!
