Out of your reach

Short answer is no, I didn’t have a birthday or holiday where I didn’t get what I asked for. Let me explain why…

Sometime around the first or second grade I realized that if I asked for things that I knew my parents would never give me, either they were completely impractical or far too expensive, that I had a very good chance of getting everything else on my list. When I was younger I’d place things like a pony or a princess bed on the list, as I got older, my own TV, or even a car (before I could drive) would appear. I’d always put them in order of ridiculousness with the most impossible first to the plausible and then on into my real list.

My mother swears she never noticed anything funny about my lists and just picked whatever she thought I really wanted.
